We present a computational solution for the automated design of a musical instrument. The shape and sound of the instrument is determined by the user, and an optimization pipeline synthesizes the geometry of a 3d solid that exhibits the desired properties. We discuss the parametrization of the underlying shape space, the finite element simulation to compute the natural frequencies of the object, the optimization loop, fabrication methods, and results.
