For the paper Real-Time Editing of Path-Traced Scenes with Prioritized Re-Rendering, pubished at the 19th International Conference on Computer Graphics Theory and Applications (GRAPP), Annalena Ulschmid was awarded with the Best Student Paper Award. The project was done in collaboration with Bernhard Kerbl, Katharina Krösl and Michael Wimmer.
In their work, they introduce multiple re-rendering techniques with incremental updates for 3D scene editing with physically-based path tracing. The reconstruction of regions with high importance is prioritized, before gradually moving to less important image-space areas. The suggested methods automatically identify and schedule sampling and accumulation of immediately affected regions, offering a more effective editing experience for 3D scene designers than global re-rendering techniques.
