Using a magic lens to explore a detailed representation of the 3D flow field. The zoom at the end of the movie shows the whole of the detailed representation.

The Personal Interaction Panel (PIP) is used to switch off the context (the coarse representation of the flow). The flow is now displayed only inside the magic box.

The PIP is used to rescale and alter the aspect ratio of the magic box. The resulting "slab" can be used to explore cross-sections of the 3D flow in real-time.

Adaptive texture-mapping is used to reduce the number of dashes in slow moving regions of the visualization. This reduces aliasing while still directly representing flow velocity as animation speed.

The upper dashtube uses adaptive texture-mapping, the lower dashtube uses the usual mapping.
