Announcing Alice 3.0
for Windows 95 and Windows NT
Alice 3.0 offers the same advanced image visualization
and analysis capabilities as its earlier releases.
However, we've incorporated the following new features into Alice 3.0 (since
version 2.0) which will make your image processing tasks easier than ever.
3D Surface Rendering
Alice's new 3D volume rendering module provides surface visualization of 3D images in medical applications. Alice 3.0 combines all the slices of a study and automatically creates a 3D solid image, providing a valuable visualization tool. Using point and click technology, the Render command quickly prepares a 3D image that you can rotate, tilt, or elevate for the best possible view. Linear interpolation between volume slices and orthogonal to the viewing plane ensures high quality images with a minimum of interslice banding.
Enhanced Processing Operations
Expand generates a new study and interpolates the image to an arbitrary size.
Shrink also generates a new study, but decimates the image to an arbitrary size.
Crop eliminates all data not contained within a selected region of interest while generating a new study at the same time.
Separate Slices takes a file containing multiple slices and/or frames and creates individual files.
New Spatial Measurement Tool
The Orthogonal Ruler Tool creates two rulers perpendicular to each other for advanced measurement functions.
Enhanced Visualization Features
Color Stripe Overlay
Use the new Color Stripe Overlay tools to insert either a vertical or horizontal calibration color stripe into your study to show pixel values of the image. Use the Pointer Tool for resizing the stripe or to move the stripe to a different location in the study. Any changes made in the Color Manager will result in changes to the new color stripe overlay in your study.
24-Bit Color
Alice 3.0 now offers 24-bit color visualization. If the display card you have installed on your computer is in 24-bit true color mode, Alice will automatically default to Enhanced Mode. Enhanced Mode can show subtle pixel value differences even when the image is dominated (washed out) by high valued structures such as bone in a CT study. In addition, with 24-bit color you can still view images in Alice while other applications are running in the foreground.
Multi-Planar View
The Multi-Planar View is an excellent tool for interactively browsing image volumes. The cross hairs on each of the three orthogonal images clearly show the positions of the associated slices. You can use the mouse to drag the cross hairs to display another set of slices. When you pass the mouse over the three images in Multi-Planar View, Alice displays the correct x, y and z coordinates in the coordinates pane as well as the corresponding voxel value.
New Analysis Feature
Log Measurements under the Analysis Menu allows you to log the information from your study overlays (such as ruler or angle measurements) under the Results Window.
New Zoom Tools
Zoom by Percent &emdash; allows the user to enlarge or reduce the image's appearance by a specific percentage.
Zoom to Fit &emdash; allows the user to to make the image fit a specified area defined by the user.
Note: The Zoom tools are different than Expand or Shrink as the number of pixels does not change when using Zoom.
New Advanced On-Line Help
Rather than looking up information in the user's manual, use the On-Line Help System to find answers to your questions with just a few clicks of the mouse. Look up information three different ways: Contents lists information by chapter (similar to the table of contents in the userÕs manual). Index lists information alphabetically by key word. Or you can use use Find to instantly look up information based on the key words you specify.
New Reader File Format
Alice 3.0 now includes a new reader for all your JPEG JFIF files.
New Header Information Display
The Study Info command provides access to all header information for your Native, Import/Export, or DICOM* files.
* Optional DICOM file reader required.
