High image quality is very important for medical applications. If the scene is too complex, performance decreases, and interactive behavior can only be produced by decreasing quality. But there are possibilities to eliminate large parts of this disturbing reduction or to allow the reduction only for a short time.
A control-system changes image quality by using the value of measured framerate.
First, the image is produced in a coarse resolution, which represents the data set in less detail. Later, if no user action happens, a refined image is calculated in hierarchical time steps. Therefore an object can be manipulated interactively and reaches high quality as soon as possible.
