A Visual Journey through a 4D Dynamical System
Abstract
The visualization of dynamical systems with a dimension higher then 3 remains
a challenge. Due to the at most three dimensional perception and thinking
schemes of most people and the two dimensional nature of the display devices
only a part of the information contained in a 4D space can be displayed
simultaneously. Animation or color may be used as an additional dimension
and various advanced methods have been developed for higher dimensional
visualizations [WeLö97], but it remains
up to the viewer to reconstruct the picture of the four dimensional system.
These pages are an attempt to visualize the behaviour of a four dimensional
dynamical system making use of various visualization techniques like animation,
color coding and extruded parallel coordinates.
