Background
The Muli-Scale visualization has originally been developed by Shimabukuro et al., the goal being the combination and coordination of several visualizations for time-oriented data. For the DisCō project, the focus on the structure of time has been exceptionally relevant. As the Multi-Scale visualization is well-suited for this task, it has been implemented and expanded by us.
The Structure of Time
Time, in opposition towards other quantitative data dimensions, has an inherent structure which results from social as well as natural context. For the analysis of time-oriented data, considering this context is essential. As a model for the structure of time, there are granularities. The concept of granularities has been well explained p.e. by Bettini.
